Deal or No Deal rocked by budget cuts

It sounds like the mysterious banker from Deal or No Deal has been involved in negotiating the show’s new contract. In a sensational move, the Noel Edmonds-fronted game show looks set to leave Channel 4 for a more lucrative deal with one of its rivals.

Somewhat bizarrely for a show with props amounting to little more than a dozen or so red cardboard boxes, Channel 4 chiefs have told makers Endemol that they have plans to slash the show’s budget. Ears over at Sky and the BBC have pricked up as a result.

“The programme budgets have to match the price of the advertising revenues,” said an insider. “Endemol are aware of this. Noel has been told about budget cuts, what he is most worried about is how this will affect the actual format of the show.

“They are talking about lowering the cash prize and other changes, which would completely change the tone of the show. But at the very least, Noel has said that he will be on the show for another 18 months.”

Sounds like a little cosmic ordering is called for, if you ask us. Noel – you know the drill..
